We are happy to announce our next Digital in Berlin Music Salon with Loscil (Kranky/Ghostly) from Canada and aus (flau) from Japan.
It is Loscil’s first European tour since touring with ‘Stars of the Lid’ in 2002, and will be in support of his recent release ‘Sketches from New Brighton’.
*aus* is the solo project of Yasuhiko Fukuzono of Tokyo. Fukuzono has gained attention worldwide through his skillful and delicate sound production, exquisitely combining electronics with sounds from daily life. He will be joined, for the first time, by Berlin based voice Clara Hill for two Songs on stage.
The serene ambient compositions of Loscil come courtesy of Vancouver-based musician Scott Morgan. Taking his moniker from the “looping oscillator” function in the computer music language Csound, Morgan uses custom made Max for Live devices and the occasional live instrument to build robust, droning soundscapes. Morgan cites influences including krautrock pioneers Cluster, minimalist composer Gavin Bryars, and a wealth of film music composers.
Loscil’s origins come from Morgan’s combined influence and involvement with Vancouver’s indie rock scene in the 90’s, having played in several bands as a guitarist and drummer, and also from his academic studies at Simon Fraser University where he learned computer music, film sound and new music composition studying with influential electroacoustics pioneer Barry Truax.
Loscil’s self-released album, A New Demonstration of Thermodynamic Tendencies, caught the ear of the Chicago independent label Kranky, who in turn signed Morgan’s project and released Triple Point in October of 2001. Since then, Morgan has gone on to release 5 additional full length albums with Kranky including the latest Sketches from New Brighton released in September of 2012. In light of Loscil’s exclusive track “Umbra” on Ghostly’s 2006 compilation Idol Tryouts 2, Ghostly partnered with Morgan in 2009 for the EP Strathcona Variations.
Morgan has periodically partnered with other labels for special projects including 2012’s City Hospital book report on Dublin’s WistRec and 2011’s Coast/Range/Arc on Italy’s Glacial Movements. In addition to his Loscil duties, Morgan has played drums for acclaimed Vancouver indie-rock band Destroyer and has composed several scores for major and indie games and films.
Fukuzono started making music for experimental films when he was still a teenager. As aus, he has performed live since 2004, including sets at SonarSound Tokyo, Summer Sonic Festival, De La Fantasia Festival along with many international artists such as Haruomi Hosono (YMO/Sketch Show), Chaterhouse, Ulrich Schnauss, AGF, Daedelus, Luke Abbott.
Yasuhiko Fukuzono has gained attention worldwide through his skillful and delicate sound production, exquisitely combining electronics with sounds from daily life. The music video of the track ‘With Rain’ (included in the album Curveland) made by TAKCOM was nominated in the music video category at the world famous visual festival Aurora 2007 (along with Beck, Zero7 and Subtle).

*Clara Hill* is a musician born in Berlin. She writes and performs with a varied array of artists. Her discography including 3 full-length albums and many 12“s featuring names of Electronica and Jazz knob twiddlers. Coming from a Singer-Songwriter / Acid-jazz / Electronica background – Clara never stopped discovering and experimenting new musical paths across various genres. And so she worked together with Yasuhiko Fukuzono on one track on her new forthcoming album.
