For three nights, music-machines will take over the Musikbrauerei for the world’s first ever robot-music convention. This unique event features some of the most technologically & artistically advanced robot ensembles and performers, including the music-machines of Gamut Inc, Logos Foundation Ghent & the Roland Olbeter Machines.
From pneumatic micro-pistons to acceleration sensors and polarity-changing electromagnetics, the automated & computer-controlled music-machines at Wir Sind die Roboter truly demonstrate the heights of technological & artistic accord. In addition to the ensembles, highlights of the concert program include performances by Pierre Bastien, Nicolas Bernier, Sonic Robots, a sonic installation by Bryan Jacobs, plus brand new compositions for the machines of Logos & Olbeter by such composers as Marcus Schmickler, duo Hacklander \ Hatam, Okkyung Lee, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Piotr Kurek and Gamut Inc.

The Logos Foundation will also present some of their studies, demonstrating the possibilities of their machines, and classic 20th Century pieces for the player piano will complete the concert program with pieces by such luminaries as Ligeti, Nancarrow, Tenney and more. This 3-day event will take place throughout the sprawling corridors and chambers of Musikbrauerei Berlin, an old brewery in Prenzlauer Berg, and one of the last buildings in the area that remains in its original state.
In addition to concerts, a supporting program will further examine the topic of machine music. Globally renowned linguist Leslie Dunton-Downer will speak about the evolution of the words robot, automaton and machine, while cultural theoretician Martin Burckhardt will speak about the end of the virtuoso and the beginning of acoustic virtualities. These midnight talks will also include discussions with some of the machine builders.

In the cellar of the Musikbrauerei, Jens-Maria Weber creates an installation with his uncanny robot sculptures, straight from his graphic novel, ‘codex roboticus.’ The program includes a live reading of the graphic novel by the author himself.
