With this event in cooperation with the Münchner Kammerspiele, the brothers Markus and Micha Acher from Weilheim in Upper Bavaria, otherwise known as the band The Notwist, wanted to make a small contribution to the revival of the concert scene. In recent years, a young, amazingly vibrant music scene with many exciting new artists has emerged in this city, yet many concerts and tours by innovative international acts do not come to Munich, because local promoters are shy of the financial risk involved.
What was initially planned as a one-off project turned out to be such a success with both audience and critics that all participants have now decided to organise a second show. Who knows, perhaps an annual festival will eventually emerge from this? As in the previous year, on all three stages of the Kammerspiele on 15 and 16 December, The Notwist brings together a mixture of their favourite bands and artists, whom they have discovered on concert tours, forays in the Internet or simply by visiting music stores.

The decisive criterion in their selection is still the courage to experiment. It’s about sounds—ones that break away from genre definitions. It’s about artists creating new contexts. The performers, who have been invited from all over the world illustrate in this extended show that music has no borders—not geographically or culturally. The political shift to the right across the world, the triumphant advance of populist parties and the rise of racist exclusion and violence make events like these just as relevant and important as they were in the past.
