Berlin’s beloved, genre-twisting Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra will perform one of its infamous concerts in its hometown in the intimate atmosphere of House of Music this month.
The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (AMEO) is considered one of the most distinctive and idiosyncratic large ensembles on the international scene. After four acclaimed albums and well over 200 concerts in 25 countries on four continents, it is currently a twelve-member group that can expand flexibly. Its music has been constantly reinventing itself since the orchestra was founded (2006) – hardly any band has examined, experienced and brought together so many styles, attitudes and musical colors in an original way.

It mainly plays compositions by founder Daniel Glatzel, which continuously overcome and expand musical boundaries, but also includes material from earlier collaborations with Hermeto Pascoal and improvisational forrays from the stellar musicians in the band.
AMEO currently draws from a colorful spectrum of jazz, classical, indigenous music from Malawi and Brazil, avant-garde, punk, ambient and electronica. Part of its current program was created specifically for a show at Berghain. AMEO has also performed concerts at the Roskilde Festival, in the large philharmonic halls of the Berlin, Cologne and Elbphilharmonie, NDR – das neue Werk, and many more.

It collaborated in early years with indie-bands like Efterklang and later with the experimental Anthony Braxton and classical Sinfonietta Riga. In 2021, AMEO was the first large ensemble to be honored with the German Jazz Prize. In 2024 it is nominated as “Ensemble of the Year”.
