Andrra (Fatime Kosumi) is a musician and artist of Kosovar origin whose work revolves around the impact of heritage and tradition on modern society. Born in Rosenheim, Germany, ANDRRA returned to her family village in 2001, shortly after the events of the Kosovo War. She currently resides and records in Berlin.
Her debut EP, 2017’s Palinë, tackles issues of child marriage and female oppression in Kosovo – an ongoing problem – drawing heavily on folk lyrics and the personal stories of the women of her family. Co-produced by German musician PC Nackt, the EP combines a dark, synth-heavy sound with traditional instrumentation and emotive folk rhythms and melodies – a combination she describes as ‘bringing together the soul of a farmer and the unapologetic industrial machine’.
This approach is emphasised during live performances, with ANDRRA’s band currently including German musicians Christoph Mäcki Hamann on synth and Jörg Wähner on drums, who have both played with APPARAT and supported José González. Accompanied by a songbook and a series of self-directed videos, the EP’s lead single Kalle Llamen topped the charts across Kosovo and Albania.

Family and heritage are central to ANDRRA’s work. Kosumi’s political activism in Kosovo from 2001 saw her travelling from village to village speaking to citizens of the new state (which was granted independence in 2008), developing in the artist a heartfelt desire to share her experiences and knowledge of her country of origin.
