Anna Schimkat + Oker at Ausland / Thursday, 03.03.2016

Leipzig based artist Anna Schimkat performs a new work specifically composed for this concert during her current residency at Institut für alles Mögliche. In her artistic work, scientific research is the processual basis for the formulation of the idea.

In each respective context, Schimkat is interested in the processes, causes and rules of  natural, social and cultural realities. She makes an assertion, observes and examines it. One main focus for her is the preoccupation with the experience  and sensation of space.

Another important focus is sound in the context of space and its converse, space in the context of sound. With the help of abstraction, Anna Schimkat achieves the reduction of conceptual preparatory work and arrives at a generally understandable statement.

This creates site-specific, accessible and physically sensual rooms and sound installations that interact with their respective contexts and influence the materials chosen for the installations. The idea qualifies the aesthetics of the work.

Oker (Norwegian for ochre) is an acoustic improvising quartet. The pieces can be long in duration with rich textures in gradual change, but also spontaneous and open. The ensemble balances between airy gestures and dense collective blocks of sound.

This event is presented by Digital in Berlin. Check out our Facebook page to win tickets.
