Rockers take note: in this mainstream festival free summer of 2021 BERLIN is not AM RING, a small, inclusive and anti-capitalist music and theater festival is rising up from the ground in the Lichtenberg district. Nürburgring, VIP area, platinum tickets with express shipping – fuck it! BERLIN is not am RING Vol. 3 asks, with Richard Wagner’s „The Ring of the Nibelung“ at hand, how things stand with the music and culture industry in the 21st century. Which mechanisms of power, exploitation and market forces in the arts are we at the mercy of and which radical ideas of emancipation from big greed can we gain from Wagner’s opera tetralogy?
From the 20th to the 22nd of August 2021 the inclusive Theater Thikwa, Black Cracker, music theater combo glanz&krawall, big band Omniversal Earkestra and the rock’n’roll wrestlers Project Nova Wrestling will tread the boards of the FAHRBEREITSCHAFT site in Herzbergstraße. Over the course of the three day open air marathon they will tear up 2 stages with the good spirits of classic and rock cultures’ centerpieces. Male “geniuses” and commercial heavyweights can call for their mums and dads – BERLIN is not AM RING is staunchly anti-elite complete with its pay-what-you-can ticket system and a hierarchy free meeting of new, serious music, composers, artists and audience. Warm-ups and after hours will be organised by the Spaceship party series with workshops, bands and DJs featuring people with and without disabilities including among others, the Hamburg based band Station 17 and inclusion and barrier-free activist Raul Krauthausen.
