Crisis Meeting + Saumur at Mengi::berlin / Wednesday & Thursday, 11-12.01.2017

Mengi and the Embassy of Iceland in Berlin invite everybody to the finissage of Mengi(berlin), three month long project in collaboration with the Embassy of Iceland in Felleshus, with Crisis Meeting: a theater performance by Kriðpleir – leikhópur, and concert by Arve Henriksen, Hilmar Jensson and Skúli Sverrisson.

Into creative and experimental music and art, Mengi is an art gallery, a label, a performance venue, hosting diverse art events, releases music by some of the nations most ambitious musicians and operates an art store. Their emphasis is on experimental art, be it music, installation, theater, spoken word, visual art or any other interesting form of performance. As label, Mengi release music of some of Icelands most progressive musicians.

Crisis Meeting is a performance group Kriðpleir consists of Árni Vilhjálmsson, Friðgeir Einarsson and Ragnar Ísleifur Bragason. Their performances are curious combination for fiction and reality where different subject threads such as anarchy, television sitcoms and themes that are even reminiscent of Samuel Becket’s work come together. The group’s projects are many, and at times they seem impossible, but the member’s desire for truth, social acknowledgement and respect moves mountains. Crisis meeting is an introduction to the weird world of Kriðpleir; a great opportunity for art lovers and business people to get to know the group’s members better, and to watch them work while pondering the mysterious ways of performance arts.

Saumur is a concert with three of the best Nordic improvisational musicians, Skúli Sverrisson, Hilmar Jensson and Arve Henriksen. Unprejudiced and curious approach towards music is one of the links that connect these three musicians. They’ve all been inspired by music from all over the world, ancient and new; music based in classical traditions of many continents along with experimental music of our time, noise, drone, electronica, post-rock, minimalism to name but few. Their sources mold their strong, distinctive voices that can not be defined or labelled. Music based on deep knowledge, continuous practice and relentless search.The album Saumur is released via Mengi’s record label, it contains music by the three artists, and this is the first time that these musicians collaborate together.
