After last year’s successful concert, the former “Can” singer Damo Suzuki returns to the Friedenskirche Charlottenburg with free improvisations and psychedelic rock.
Again he is supported by Ziguri, the band of echo guitar maestro Günther Schickert. Additional support this time comes from electronic musician Schneider TM aka Dirk Dresselhaus.
Anyone who is a fan of space rock or krautrock has most certainly heard of Damo Suzuki. Besides lending his unique vocal talents to four classic albums by legendary german avant-rockers Can, Damo has continued to be busy through the 1990’s to the present, performing with numerous musicans and bands, all part of what he calls Damo Suzuki’s Network.

This loose conglomeration of performers is centered around Damo Suzuki and consists of artists from all around the world. Functioning as a shaman-like axis, Damo Suzuki guides his ‘sound carriers’ through unrehearsed, experimental sonic voyages.
“I’m not so much interested in anything in particular, that’s why I’m singing about nothing.” Damo’s words may not sound exactly like English or German or Japanese or French but they impart meaning to everyone, regardless of mother tongue.

Since the late 80’s Dirk Dresselhaus aka Schneider TM is active in different musical fields. From 1989 until 1997 he played and sang in indie-noiserock and -pop bands like Locust Fudge or Hip Young Things.
Before he became more active in electronic music around 1997 with his project Schneider TM, which is responsible for a couple of experimental electro-freak-pop albums and mini-hits like a coverversion of a song by The Smiths called The Light 3000.
Ziguri with Damo Suzuki | Live at Friedenskirche 2011
ZIGURI in their own words: “Ziguri is a band existing with breaks since 1985.They are all involved in multimedia and theater. So there are different playgrounds. This year will be a harder sound because times are changing. Agressive meditation. Flying saucers. Stop dreaming.
They will play with Damo Suzuki again. Raging and fighting for freedom of body and mind. They are three, but sometimes sound like 100 thunderstorms. They swim in cold water embarrassing the sun.Ziguri are Günter Schickert ( Guitar, effects, conch, trumpet ), Udo Erdenreich ( Bass, effects, hurdy gurdy, mouthharp ) and Dieter Kölsch ( Everything you can hit ).
Highly recommended by Digital in Berlin! We are giving away 2 x 2 tickets for this event. Just send a mail to win@digitalinberlin.de with “Damo Suzuki at Friedenskirche” as the subject.
