The Dara String Festival brings together interdisciplinary string artists from all over the world every year. 7 international, interdisciplinary string artists come together to present a broad spectrum of cross-genre, innovative music.
The unconventional exchange of experience and culture between the musicians and performers Clara Levy, Judith Hamann, Biliana Voutchkova, Manja Ristić, Atsuko Hatano, Youmna Saba and Vinicius Cajado creates fruitful synergies and surprising listening experiences.
Soloists and various ensembles will play – from early contemporary music to experimental and freely improvised music. The program includes new compositions by the musicians themselves as well as world premieres by Sarah Hennies, Zeynep Toraman and Voutchkova/Levy and pieces by Kaija Saariaho and Erika Vega. Come and listen to this extraordinary encounter of violin, cello, double bass, electronics, oud and not to forget: the voice!
The Dara String Festival is the only festival of its kind in Berlin that is dedicated exclusively to strings and encompasses all contemporary genres. This year, the focus is on works for string instruments and electronics. Original arrangements with a total of seven artists create a multicontinental exchange. 2024 will be the most diverse festival edition to date with artists from Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Musicians such as Manja Ristić, Atsuko Hatano and Youmna Saba bring with them a very specific sound world that is linked to their respective identities and countries and share this with the other musicians and the audience. In conjunction with this year’s focus on electronics, the artists develop unique setups that are at the cutting edge of current developments.
The aim of the Dara String Festival is to bring together renowned international string artists from different musical backgrounds in a series of encounters to stimulate new thoughts and ideas for the further development of individual and collective artistic endeavours.
