From here the album begins to blossom into a more intricately arranged affair, mimicking the kind of warm, vintage feel of Fleet Foxes and – perhaps more accurately – Devendra Banhart LPs, complete with old-fashioned instrumentation and studio effects. All of this comes together wonderfully well on ‘We’ll FInd Out’, a slowed down ballad driven by female harmony vocals, weary violins and a quivering organ tone. Similar elements combine to evoke a kind of Tom Waits-tinted blues on ‘I Get Low’, while closing track ‘No Bold Villain’ manages to assert its power through a more slender presentation, exposing Kirk’s voice in all its tremulous frailty.
