OVERTIME: The concept of work has infiltrated our private lives, our free time, our identities and senses of self. New work ideologies blur the boundaries between work and leisure, bolstering the illusion of endless productivity, reframing work as passion and re-casting the worker as an agent of their own exploitation. Care work, advocacy and other forms of invisible labour are disproportionately allocated along gendered and racialised lines, significantly affecting the amount of time and energy remaining for rest and personal fulfilment. DICE explores new strategies for stepping outside these logics, developing new concepts of work and strengthening our daily practices. On Thursday, October 31st, DICE will welcome the community to our opening night Halloween celebration with a Community Assembly at the Taborkirche, a gathering of dedicated local organisers will meet each other and the public, with the mood set by the multi-talented vocalist and dj Stella Zekri. The opening night artist spotlight talk will be delivered by Julianna Huxtable. Following the talk, there will be a live ritual performance by House of Living Colors members GodXXX Noirphiles, ÁZA, Night Child, accompanied by organist Rahel Hutter.
Next up is our Halloween party at Bi Nuu, accompanied by performances from Tami T, Shygirl, Gianni Mae, and 6zm, followed by a dj set by Black Cracker. This event will be a celebration of the local community as well as the many individuals and groups who sustain Berlin’s radical artistic character. It will be free of charge with RSVP.
On Friday, November 1st, DICE will present an electroacoustic soundscape by Turkish composer Ipek Gorgun at the Taborkirche. The Neighbourhood Character will regal us with a pre-show dj set to set the mood. Later that night, we will host an all-star lineup at Bi Nuu, including live performances by Nadah El Shazly with her band, Lafawndah, Ami Dang, Ale Hop and DJ Sets by DJ Marcelle/Another Nice Mess and Lady Blacktronika.
