Digital in Berlin’s monthly series at Spektrum continues with another quality double bill, this time featuring Greek producer Subheim who will soon celebrate the release of his new album on Denovali as well as D/B’s own editor and collaborator Dirk Markham presenting another onslaught of his live ambient/drone project „Dirge“.
Dirge is the ambient/drone project by D/B editor Dirk Markham. Dirk has been making experimental recordings and teaching himself every instrument he can get his hands on since his years studying mental philosophy at Edinburgh University in the late 90s. While an ongoing collaborative exchange with the Forest Records Collective still provides a strong bond to Edinburgh, Markham has been residing in Berlin for the last 10 years where he previously worked for Gudrun Gut’s indie label monika enterprise and is now part of the research and development team with Native Instruments.
Berlin-based musician Subheim composes deep electronic music with acoustic elements. His work is a collage of field recordings, slow evolving drum beats, hypnotic melodies and echoing voices. Drawing from a wide spectrum of genres and influences, from ambient, drone and post-rock to downtempo, lofi, trip hop and even techno, his sonic journeys are there for cold nights, for long train rides, for one to sink into during or after the storm, for the sleepless and the loners.
