This July the first edition of FRAMED FEST will premiere site-specific concerts, performances and workshops as well as an exhibition of poems, held in Wasserturm (Prenzlauer Berg). This space and its potential have been inspirational to FRAMED and as such the festival and program have been designed to reflect the relationship between the artists and performers and the physical space. FRAMED commissioned world class artists to create hour-long performances that will feature duets, performing together for the very first time.
In Echo choreographed by Annick Schadeck , performed by Tong Xiaoyi and Yuya Fujinami, with music by multidisciplinary artist Bastian Iglesias, non-visual patterns in space and time will be explored through visual movement. Theremin, an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the performer, plays an important role.
When dance is combined with a theremin, an impulsive movement generates an audible sound that echoes through space and time. In this sense, what we are experiencing in the present moment may be a ripple, or an “echo” from a past signal. This piece shows how we can experience the past, present, and future simultaneously through echos.
