Das Festival für Selbstgebaute Musik 2022 at Holzmarkt & Säälchen / Sunday, 4.9.2022

The festival for self-made music transforms the Holzmarkt for the second time into a big acoustic playground for everyone. With instrument-building workshops, participatory installations, concerts and performances, a place of cooperation and dialogue is created and invites you to tinker, build and discover.

In recent years, artists such as Moritz Simon Geist, Hans Unstern, Alexander Hacke and Melodie Mélak have given workshops and concerts here, held talks and shown their instruments. This year, audiophiles and interested people of all ages will come together again to exchange sounds and ideas.

The who is who of the do-it-yourself scene will be on display on September 4 at Säälchen as well as throughout the whole Holzmarkt: 120 DEN will be making rebuilt dolls’ legs dance, Joasihno are packing their suitcase and taking a whole band with them, and the music computers of Gamut Inc will be playingfrom the last pipe hole. Yuri Landman gives a deep insight and explains how he creates sounds and composes his pieces before his performance.

Visitors can try their hand at the synthesizer sound carousel by SchneidersLaden, Andy Vazul‘s mini windwall, the physical sound experiments by Experimental Stage Project or Erwin Stache’s cuckoo clocks from all over the world. Basic musical work can be found at the numerous workshop stands of e.g. Playtronica, MutantmonkeyInstruments, Gleeetch 8 Bit, imui e.V., Klangholz e.V., exploratorium Berlin or Alwin Weber, where young and old can tinker their own instruments and experience sound production. A harmless stroll through the Holzmarkt thus becomes an exciting sound exploration that makes ears, hands, heart and mind tingle in equal measure.

The team of Selbstgebaute Musik continues to take care of a pandemic compliant realization of the festival. In the last two years we have been able to adapt strategies and basic ideas of the festival such as DIY, DIT, learning by doing, experimental approaches and improvisation to this particular situation.
