Das Festival für selbstgebaute Musik ZK/U | Friday, 13-15.09.2019

KOLLEGEN 2,3 and Antje Öklesund present an excellent festival at ZK/U in September focussing on DIY, homemade instruments and building instruments.

The fantastic programme includes many workshops, lectures, talks, installations and exhibitions as well as concerts by some of our favourite local musicians such as Andi Otto, FS Blumm and Driftmachine.

Announcing the onset of night, Driftmachine —a Berlin-based duo comprised of Andreas Gerth (Tied & Tickled Trio) and Florian Zimmer (Saroos)— have created Nocturnes, a psychoactive, dream-inducing stimulant of sorts: Evoking and maintaining a trancelike state, the duo’s six-part journey into the dark was originally inspired by reading The Rest Is Noise and listening to the music discussed in Alex Ross’ seminal book. The resulting soundscapes, written and recorded since 2012, redefine the lines between insomnia and slumber, between wraithlike dub grooves gone awry, the dancing flicker of a slack-joint bedside lamp, and eerie electronics.

Andi Otto is a composer and performer of electronic music based in Hamburg, Germany. He has recorded his music as Springintgut from 2002-2014, today he uses his actual name for all releases. He has released five albums, various singles, collaborations and remixes on international labels. On stage, he plays a unique sensor-extended cello bow which he has developed in collaboration with STEIM in Amsterdam. This instrumental system which he calls Fello allows for gestural performance of the electronically processed sounds of the amplified cello.
