Berlin is rich with local electronic music producers and DJs. Privately though not all of them are exclusively listening to electronic music or the kind of music they make themselves. So what else is inspiring them?
Once a month Monarch Berlin invites a producer, artist or DJ to play music he/she would usually not play in a club: music that informs the roots of their styles, obscure songs they love, guilty pleasures, analogue or digital, danceable or not.

Grischa Lichtenberger is an electronic music producer, installation and visual artist living in Berlin. Grown up in a withdrawn farmhouse near Bielefeld (Westphalia) his artistic approach developed from surveying the landscape as reference for the condition of art production itself. Landscape, in this sense, is understood not only as the pitoresque or sublime recreational facility of nature, but as an interaction between the traces of biographical history and the material concreteness of the present suroundings.
Like the weight of the walking is incorporated in the beaten track of the familiar woods. For Lichtenberger the integrity of a piece of art is concerned both by the material gravity (as its force) and the relevance of the intimate narrative (as its meaning).

The agressive tone in his sounddesign, resembling this force of material heaviness, has its counterpart in an emotional depth of the musical structure – a hermetic idiosyncracy of rhythm and melodies that inplement a personal handwriting into the arrangement and sculpture of the soundelements.
The music aims towards a paradoxic parallelity of introspective moods on the dancefloor and unsettling contemplations in an intimate listening situation. Tumbling between funky, highly energetic beats and trembling, concerning melodies, an almost tactile honesty reaches out to the individual listener. Technology appears not as the perfect, mathematically defined form, but as an index of failure and error, as a shadow of the spooking despairs and desires of its producer, engraved in the finitness of the concrete form to be embraced by the attentive.
