In 2015, HEIM released their first self-titled record, straight-vamp robing drums, fuzzy, playful-to-heavy guitars and an impulsive-harsh bass. The new album, ‘Palm Beach’, was released by Tapete Records this September. The eight songs on ‘Palm Beach’ unfold melancholic melodic guitar rock moments à la Dinosaur Jr. or Built to Spill with a heavyness that destroys everything that bands like Shellac left behind.
Christian Bethge, the unconventional creative mind predestined for HEIM, has shaped and recorded the album live in Mannheim’s RAMA recording studio. It creaks and presses like a Touch-and-Go release from the nineties, where musicians and producers come together with common ideas and a desire for pure raw sound: no overdubs, no compromises.
The result is an extraordinary album of German-language guitar music of the year 2016. HEIM play loud — very loud — silent guys who walk on the edge. In the most insistent, saddest, most blatant moment of the record (in the cellar), “A weak person who tries desperately. No matter what else is coming. The rejection remains”, screams Denny. This is no rave party. Instead: HOME. In the basement. This is where we live. We live in a dark time.
HEIM will be supported by I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. IHNMAIMS is a shoegaze / post-punk band from Berlin, who took their band name from a dystopian science fiction short story about survivors of a nuclear war. Musical influences include The Cure and My Bloody Valentine as well as fellow Berlin bands The History of Colour TV, BraBraBra, Skiing and Jolly Goods, with whom they share current or former band members.
