James K

A version of James K was born. Comprised of bones, reactive metals and a larynx with freckled eyes that catalyzes that mix, she can now see through all the schemes. This is the truth. When she chews gum, it’s not clear which one of her personas does it. Since their first release in 2013, describing them separately is grunt work as they switch places, cosplay each other and would most likely lull you into a lonesome dream. Together, they know how to produce, sound, film and edit. Thus, they are brought to the table, performing and DJing in clubs and theaters, along composers and children alike.

They have released on AD 93, Incienso, PAN, Dial, UNO, and her label She Rocks!, among others. K has been a resident on NTS, with her show, ‘Trip Lick,’ since 2019. She has collaborated with artists such as Priori, hoodie, Beta Librae, Drew McDowall, Yves Tumor, crimeboys, LEYA, Parris, and slayed her band SETH twice. She produces music that makes temporary haven for indomitable lyrics – and these are in constant flux. You can check what they are here: [917 908-1173]. It’s only a part of her fairly detailed world. A world that she abandons and then builds upon.

Arushi Jain – Delight . I played a show with them last month and their live show was amazing, I got the record right after and listened all the way through. Highly recommend.

8. Who would you most like to collaborate with?

My cat.

9. What was your best gig (as performer or spectator)?

As a spectator, probably going to Grateful Dead shows as a baby and very small child (my parents are dead heads) – wild vibes there. As a performer, I’ve always loved the gigs where I get to play in beautiful outdoor landscapes- very recently, playing at lost festival inside of a bamboo labyrinth and playing at solstice festival in very northern Finland on the solstice on a top of a mountain with the sun never setting was unreal.

10. How important is technology to your creative process?

My creative process has many layers to it, and technology is embedded into my process in terms of how I produce, edit and manipulate sound. But, if I had to eliminate ‘digital’ technology, it wouldn’t change the core, which is the brain and being. In fact, I think the most important creative jolts I’ve felt are when I’m cut off from ‘the grid,’ completely immersed in nature.

11. What can we expect from your performance at this year’s Pop-Kultur 2024 festival

To cry.
