The concert series JAZZEXZESS starts the autumn season in the Kantine am Berghain with performances by the Swiss harpist Julie Campiche and her quartet as well as the record release concert by the Berlin drummer Max Andrzejewski and his project HÜTTE.
The harp is not an instrument that is instinctively associated with jazz, but that hasn’t stopped Julie Campiche – she is constantly innovating with her instrument and has created a very personal technique and language for herself. Their quartet, made up of new-generation Swiss musicians, delivers music in which the electronic effects of each instrument intertwine in delicate and powerful moods.
“Hardly any other young jazz band has caused as much attention in Germany in recent years as Max Andrzejewski’s HÜTTE,” says the enthusiastic music journalist Wolf Kampmann. HÜTTE won the New German Jazz Prize in 2013, released four albums – partially reinforced by a vocal ensemble – and played international tours.
With joy in playing and defiant eccentricity, this group of strong individuals – the drummer and composer Max Andrzejewski, the saxophonist Johannes Schleiermacher, the guitarist Tobias Hoffmann and the bassist Andreas Lang – cultivates a passionate musical madness of the highest quality. Avant-garde music, singing melodies and expressive freedom… the HÜTTE is on fire.
