Jazzexcess returns with the first event in the series of the year featuring 2 excellent concerts at House of Music in Friedrichshain with mOnk bOts and CRUTCHES both performing live.

Crutches describe their style as “elevator music for claustrophobics” which is a definition that can should be taken with a pinch of salt. Instead of simple feel-good music like in the supermarket, the quartet unfolds artfully arranged soundscapes. Complex rhythms and multifaceted improvisations invite you to immerse yourself, marvel and experience the music in its depth.

The Berlin band around trumpeter Martin Klingeberg invites you on a journey into the sonic universe with their “free-flowin’-phonk-a-delic-space-jazz”. Hypnotic beats, vibrating guitar riffs and compelling bass lines merge with the cosmic trumpet to create a surreal-futuristic sound universe. Unpredictable, playful, and absolutely worth listening to!

As a child, Klingeberg received musical training on the recorder, piano and guitar. At the age of 13 he learned to play the trumpet. After graduating from high school and doing community service, he first completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. From 1986 to 1992 he studied trumpet at the Hermann Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg, initially classical and oriented towards school music, later oriented towards jazz.
