jazzexzess presents a fantastic double bill at Kantine Berghain this month with the band formerly known as Tau5, now just Tau playing a record release concert for their new album on Fun in the Church plus the saxophone & accordion duo Nebbia-Parkins also performing live.
Musically, TAU oscillates between free jazz and fusion with beat-heavy hip-hop elements and some moments reminiscent of lavishly produced soundtracks. In a collective process of composition, improvisation, and arrangement, the five Berlin and Cologne based musicians, find a distinct vocabulary for their own sonic language. The result is a sound pulsing with density – it’s at once futuristic, virtuosic, and courageous.
Andrea Parkins is an electroacoustic musician, composer, and sound artist who engages interactively with electronics as a compositional and performative process. Camila Nebbia is a saxophone player, composer, improviser, and visual artist. In their music, the two multidisciplinary artists explore the multi-layered landscapes that emerge at the intersection of acoustic and electronic instruments. Their dynamic collaboration focused on free improvised music gives rise to ever-evolving soundscapes.
