Another highlight of this years XJazz festival sees Austrian drummer, solo percussionist and composer performing live at the Emmauskirche on Lausitzer Platz in Kreuzberg.
The multidisciplinary drummer and composer Katharina Ernst puts everything you thought you knew about drums, percussion and its relatives in the shade. Her brilliant debut album “Extrametric” combines abstract compositions with hypnotic polymetrics, whose level is unsurpassed. The complexity and density of Katharina Ernst’s music makes it almost unimaginable that she appears as a solo artist.
Her setup combines the drumset with various drum synthesizers, gongs, tam-tams, a multitude of small percussion instruments and the Malawian kalimba. The melodies and beats that emerge from this are absolutely striking for a single artist and push the boundaries of what is humanly possible beat by beat.
