For an especially intimate edition of our Kiezsalon, we head to ausland with two acts from North and South America both making their Berlin debuts: Amma Ateria brings her concept-laden sonic studies and Morita Vargas her surrealist pop experimentation, along with Berlin-based DJ Nischal Khadka.
Born in Hong Kong, Amma Ateria is an electroacoustic composer and sound artist based in San Francisco and New York City. Navigating between oppositions through tension and release, her composition process embodies the realization of self hypnosis and transcending moments.
Her most recent album, CONCUSSSSION from 2023, was developed during the process of cognitive recovery. Amma Ateria studied at Mills College in music composition with a specialisation in electronic music, audio engineering and media technology.
Hailing from Buenos Aires, Morita Vargas is a composer, singer, producer and performer of experimental music that blends traditional and contemporary approaches. Her albums Mandrágora from 2019 and 8 from 2020 traverse dream pop and ambient sounds, fluctuating from whispers to screams, for a reverb-heavy style she terms “hybrid fantasy”. Besides her creative work, she has offered workshops on music production to non-musician women and dissidents.
Nischal Khadka is a sound artist, independent curator, cultural organiser, and a DJ from Nepal. In 2022, he established a nonprofit organisation Transhimalaya Foundation for Transdisciplinary Creativity with the aim of making new art accessible to the public in the Himalayan region.
ausland, established in 2002, stands as a haven for experimental and improvisational music enthusiasts. Renowned for supporting avant-garde performances and boundary-pushing acts, ausland showcases both local and international artists in an intimate atmosphere. This is the first edition of Kiezsalon at ausland, and due to limited capacity, buying tickets in advance is recommended.
