The Kiezsalon season will start with four concerts at the themed gardens of the Gärten der Welt in Marzahn-Hellersdorf. The Gardens of the World is probably the most cosmopolitan green space in Berlin. Wander through parks typical of different cultures. Here you can find an Italian Renaissance garden, as well as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Balinese gardens. There is even a maze, and Berlin’s only cable car offering guests impressive views.
Jessica Ekomane is a French-born, Berlin-based electronic musician and sound artist. Her practice unfolds around live quadraphonic performances and installations that seek a cathartic effect through the interplay of psychoacoustics, the perception of rhythmic structures, and the interchange of noise and melody. She was one the six composers chosen as collaborators by Natascha Süder Happelman for her installation at the German pavilion of the Venice Biennale 2019. She was part of the SHAPE Platform roster of artists for 2019, and in the same year released her first LP ‘Multivocal’, via Important Records.
Hamburg-based sound artist Rosaceae deals with complex and emotional source material via a brute sound that traverses noise, ambient and experimental electronic music. Her music is a response to the genocide of the Yezidi population that began in 2014, focusing especially on the systematic, violent suppression of women. The voices of Yezidi women inform her visceral recordings, and her performances use projection surfaces, dancers, and samplers to explore the ways in which female traumas are processed, creating new diasporic narratives.
Swedish saxophonist Otis Sandsjö is known for his physical, yet melancholic style of playing, and has grown to become much sought-after on the European progressive jazz circuit. 2011 saw his relocation from the west coast of Sweden to Berlin where he found a musical home, forming the long-standing trio “Speak Low” with singer Lucia Cadotsch and double-bass player Petter Eldh. With Eldh he also created the project ‘Y-OTIS’, working closely together in the band KOMA SAXO, both associated with Helsinki’s We Jazz Records.
Alicia Edelweiss is an Anglo-Austrian singer-songwriter and artist who is currently based in Vienna. She started her musical career as a 19-year-old street musician, hitch-hiking all over Europe for two years. In Portugal, she began to learn the accordion, which soon became her trade-mark, alongside her distinctive voice and love for circus and bizarre outfits.
With your Kiezsalon ticket, you are free to enter and explore the Gärten der Welt two hours before the shows. Together with Kienberg and neighbouring Wuhletal, the area makes up over 100 hectares of east Berlin. Think of our first Kiezsalon as like a short holiday in the middle of Berlin.
Last season, our shows sold out quickly, so we recommend securing your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Do not buy second-hand tickets from strangers – there are scammers around. As part of our safety first policy, tickets are only available online. There is no box office or guest list. Due to the pandemic, changes may be made at short notice. In the event of any changes, we will inform you by E-Mail. Please be aware that format of the event and venue arrangements have been adapted to maximize safety, and we have created a strict Kiezsalon hygiene and safety policy.
