The Kiezsalon 2022 season continues on Saturday, June 18 with a summery open-air double bill of extraordinary talent—Maria W Horn, Mario Batkovic, Hatis Noit, Park Jiha—in the beautiful sun-and-nature environment of the Gärten der Welt.

The day will begin with the music of Bosnian-born Swiss artist Mario Batkovic, who blends the classical and the contemporary with his unique accordion compositions; as well as being well-known for his gaming soundtracks (including Red Dead Redemption II), Rolling Stone listed his self-titled debut amongst their top 10 avant-garde albums.

Recommended by The Guardian as One To Watch in 2020, Japanese vocalist Hatis Noit’s accomplished range is, astonishingly, self-taught. Inspired by everything from Japanese classical music (Gagaku), opera and Bulgarian and Gregorian chanting, to avant-garde and pop, her follow up to 2018’s Illogical Dance (Erased Tapes) is expected around summertime.

Maria W Horn, whom readers may know from her stellar performance at our MADEIRADiG festival in 2019, hails from northern Sweden. Her work oscillates between minimalism and piercing electronics that blend digital and analogue, acoustic and audiovisual.

Wrapping up this formidable day of music is Korean multi-instrumentalist Park Jiha who joins us courtesy of the Monheim Triennale music festival. Jiha has been exploring the possibilities of traditional Korean and Asian instruments (piri, saenghwang, yanggeum) from a very young age. Her third album THE GLEAM is a gorgeous meditation on the intersection of music and light. “The beauty of Jiha’s work lies in the spaces she leaves”The Guardian

The “Gardens of the World” in Marzahn-Hellersdorf boasts 22 garden installations designed by landscape architects from all around the world. The collection of themed gardens and tropical greenhouses, art installations and sunbathing areas are a delight to explore, and can now be seen from above via a cable car system. They offer a perfect summer backdrop for our concerts.
