The organ in the historical Lindenkirche in Wilmersdorf is not only one of the biggest organs in Berlin – it is also the only playable mean-tone tuned instrument in the city. The Kontraklang team is thus especially pleased to present this concert, a sequel to the “Extended Organ” program in the Emmaus church in November 2017. Again the focus is organ music, namely the premiere of Swedish composer and multi-instrumentalist Ellen Arkbro’s piece “For Organ and Brass” developed with the Berlin-based trio Zinc & Copper and released on the album of the same name on the Subtext label. This work plays with unconventional tuning, beating patterns, harmonic modulation. Well-loved by international critics, the piece is considered a masterpiece in the area of drone-based, minimalist, microtonal, and spatial music. The brass trio Zinc & Copper, microtonal specialists, will perform the piece with Arkbro on organ.
“For Organ and Brass” will be sandwiched by a premiere of Arkbro’s new solo for organ and synthesizer, and compositions selected and performed by organist and composer Alexander Moosbrugger.
