KONTRAKLANG presents Lauren Redhead & Alistair Zaldua, Gaile Griciute at Emmauskirche Berlin / Saturday, 25.11.2017

KONTRAKLANG presents an Organ Special with Lauren Redhead & Alistair Zaldua Duo and Gaile Griciute who’ll play Arturas Bumsteinas. The evening features a program of new organ music in Kreuzberg‘s beautiful Emmaus Church.

The duo of Lauren Redhead (organ) and Alistair Zaldua (electronics) focuses on the links between organ and electronics, and sound and spatial conditions. In addition to this unique instrumental combination, the artists also work with technique of live notation in their performances. Although the sounds of the organ and electronics appear rarely together in the music of the late twentieth and twenty-first centuries, they go exceptionally well together. Both soundworlds reveal unexpected aspects about each other and the space they occupy together.

Lauren Redhead, composer and scholar of contemporary music, emphasizes in her work the social aspects of musical semiotics. As a performer she works principally with organ and electronics. Together with Alistair Zaldua she published an album of duets on the label sfz.

The versatile composer Alistair Zaldua has written music for solo instruments, chamber ensemble, and orchestra. His works include both fixed and open scores. In addition to his work as a composer, he also conducts the new music ensemble and teaches contemporary music at Canterbury Christ Church University.
