We are happy to invite you to a musical journey from Cairo to the Colombian Caribbean full of deep basslines, lovely melodies, unique sounds and heavy rhythms on two floors at Gretchen. Moataz Rageb also known as Disco Arabesquo is a sociologist, DJ, researcher and collector of Arabic cassettes and vinyl. He specializes in Arabic-Western cross-over sounds that portray ‘a splash of civilizations’ and a creative generation searching for a new identity. He will take you back to the sounds of the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s Arabic Middle-East (South-West Asia) and North Africa. You will hear the voices of Fairouz, Mohamed Mounir, Simone, Cheb Khaled, Faried el Attrache, Hamied el Shaeri and many of their friends.
Rafael Aragon is a latin/arabic rooted dj / composer / producer. Born & raised in Paris, between downtown and suburbs, he grew up surrounded by different cultures that really built him, first as a human being and later as an artist. Rafael Aragon’s music is mainly club oriented, heavy bass material, yet delicate, maximalist and highly psychedelic. With a very special, magic touch inspired by the ancient traditions of shamanism from all around the world!
Ibrahim Owais, a sound artist, founder of Recordat, part of Radio Alhara presents a selection of experimental music and sounds from Levantine and beyond. TRU:L will select music from her native Romania, a melting pot deeply influenced by western Asian rhythmic & melodic Arabic traditions, but with strong Latin linguistic sensibilities, unique in its part of the world.
