Die Sängerin Lucia Cadotsch, geboren 1984 in Zürich, studierte Jazz an der UdK Berlin und dem Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium Kopenhagen.
Die ZEIT sieht in der Schweizerin eine der wichtigen Protagonistinnen „der Wiederbelebung des Jazz-Gesangs jenseits der abgenutzten Stand ards und Singer-/Songwriterinnen-Klischees.“ 2016 veröffentlich Cadotsch mit SPEAK LOW (enja records) ihr erstes Album unter ihrem eigenen Namen. Im Trio mit Petter Eldh am Kontrabass und Otis Sand sjö am Tenorsaxophon singt sie eine berückend schöne Sammlung von Traditionals, wie Strange Fruit, Gloomy Sunday und Moon River, wie man sie noch nie gehört hat.
Cadotsch erreichte damit internationale Aufmerksamkeit und spielte auf grossen Bühnen und Festivals, wie Jazzfest Berlin, Schaffhauser Jazzfestival, Copenhagen Jazzfest, WeJazz Festival Helsinki, Land stheater Linz, Vortex London, Moods Zürich.
The Guardian zeichnete das Album mit 5 von 5 Sternen aus: „Remember the name Lucia Cadotsch– you’re going to be hearing a lot of it. Cadotsch is a young, Zurich-born vocalist who possesses a classical clarity, a folk singer’s simplicity, and an appetite for performing very famous songs in the company of two edgy free-jazz instrumentalists, who flank her sedate progress with split-note sax sounds and spiky basslines and percussive strumming. That might sound like a merciless deconstruction of fine songs, but in this compelling trio’s hand s the process is remarkably melodious and illuminating. (…) It’s all eerily beautiful.“

Original, progressive artists who are courageous enough to create something I haven’t heard and seen before, like Nina Simone, Frans Petter Eldh, Julian Sartorius, Otis Sand sjö, Billie Holiday, Evelinn Trouble, Wanja Slavin, Lucy Railton, Kendrick Lamar, everyone on the Rendition Album and and and …Their energy and creative force is my addiction.
2. How and when did you get into making music?
After one long struggle I looked out of a beautiful vulva, started singing and never stopped.

I love the vibe in Kreuzberg 36, it celebrates that – diversity, rebellion, freedom.

No idea. I never found anything else that was as much fun as making music.

10. How important is technology to your creative process?
It’s a great tool to sketch and try out pretty quickly what’s in my imagination and phantasy.

A brother, Silvio, he’s a great and very original musician, he inspires me. Ask him how he feels about me.
