Mike Heron & Trembling Bells: The Circle Is Unbroken @ Hau 1 Berlin | Monday, 02.06.2014

A match made in psych-folk heaven: The Incredible String Band’s Mike Heron teams up with Trembling Bells to perform classic String Band material from their hugely influential first four records.

Few bands could be said to embody the spirit of the 1960s more comprehensively than The Incredible String Band: On LPs such as “The Hangman’s Beautiful Daughter” with its epic perspective, pantheistic lyrics and visionary synthesis of musical forms they gave the hippie generation some of their most emblematic anthems.

One of the countless new bands indelibly influenced by the group is Trembling Bells, a Glasgow-based four piece led by the never resting Alex Neilson, who as a drummer has worked with the likes of Bonnie Prince Billy, Current 93 and Baby Dee.

Trembling Bells first joined forces with Mike Heron in 2010 at “A Very Cellular Song”, an extravaganza staged by the String Band’s former producer Joe Boyd at London’s Barbican Theatre.

Since then they have toured the UK extensively including a stint at Britain’s folk Mecca Cecil Sharp House and recorded a 7″ single cementing their kinship.

Mike Heron & Trembling Bells: The Circle Is Unbroken promises to become a spectacular evocation of the times in the year of Heron’s 72nd birthday! The Incredible String Band’s legendary documentary / freak out “Be Glad For The Song Has No Ending” will be screened before the concert.
