The first solo exhibition of Mirko Mielke at gallery kvant contains two projects about the documentation of disappearance. Great work–highly recommended.
Since 2004 Mirko Mielke has been documenting the disappearance of buildings. Architecture gets image carrier and thus an autonomous element of
architecture. The works about the GDR-Ministry of Health at Grunerstrasse (Berlin) and prefabricated blocks in Berlin Marzahn-Hellerdorf demonstrate
not even decoration of disappearing elements but the impantation of building’s history. Photography and fragmentation of architecture. In his photography and installations architecture becomes a carrier of visual communication and thereby an independent object of perception.
Mirko Mielke was born 1976 in Hamburg, Germany. He studied visual communication & experimental design at HdK/UdK in Berlin and photography & sculpture at Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, Italy.
