Mynth at Kantine am Berghain / Saturday, 17.03.2018

Mynth are twins Giovanna and Mario. Their sound is shaped by the special connection they share as twins, their bond similar to people finishing each other’s sentences, only with music. Their debut EP Polar Night was released on Seayou Records in February 2015. Almost exactly one year later saw the release of their debut album Plaat II, again on Seayou Records. Soundwise, Plaat II is a continuation of the Polar Night EP, yet more defined: synthesizer soundscapes, downtempo beats, and an ethereal voice. Influences ranged from Jessie Ware to Nine Inch Nails, Portishead to Laurie Anderson.

In 2017 Mynth won Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the category Electronic/Dance. Their second album Parallels, released in November 2017, dissolved the melancholy of its predecessor. Mynth have become brighter, more colourful and pop music oriented, as evidenced also by the Echo EP released in February 2018.

The EP is titled Echo because it is an echo of Parallels. Its sound aesthetic is roughly the same, a little more puristic maybe as it is self-produced and -mixed in contrast to the full length. These 4 songs are no album session leftovers, they have their own identity. The current single Elevator is the score to the awkwardness of being in a tiny elevator with strangers.
