Nosaj Thing is brings his own unique take on Hip Hop to deliver a sound that is unlike any other in the genre. His influences are undoubtedly producers such as Dabrye, Prefuse 73 or Boards of Canada. But his musical expression is distinctly his own, bridging the gaps between dubstep aesthetics, electronica and new era hip-hop.
Nosaj Thing is the project of Los Angeles producer Jason Chung who crafts stately, ethereal synth-based instrumental hip-hop, with influences that range from Boards of Canada and DJ Shadow to Danny Elfman and Erik Satie. An L.A. native, Chung was inspired at an early age by the hip-hop radio stations that the bus driver would play on his way to elementary school, and particularly by the Beat Junkies’ turntablism on Power 106.
What signifies Nosaj Thing is his combination of cinematic dreamscapes and hip hop beats in a style that you won’t find anywhere else.
