Ogoya is in her seventies, and despite being a legend in her own country, this will be her first European tour ever. Hailing from the village of Rang’ala on the Kenyan shores of Lake Victoria, she has been a professional singer since her early teen years and is considered to be the most prominent exponent of the vanishing art of Dodo, a musical form of spreading messages and social commentary: Her unique sound is characterized by her powerful and passionate voice and is as timeless as it is mystical.
Ogoya Nengo’s international debut album “Rang’ala – New Recordings From Siaya County, Kenya” was produced in June and July 2013 by German experimental music mavericks Stefan Schneider (of Mapstation and To Rococo Rot) and Sven Kacirek (who previously had already featured the singer on his critically praised “Kenya Sessions”) and will be brought out by London’s record store and label of taste, Honest Jon’s in fall 2014.
This is deep and heavy music, reduced to vocals and a bit of percussion.

Sofia Jernberg is a Swedish soprano, voice-artist, improviser and composer, born in Ethiopia. She has recently caught our attention as one of the featured vocalists in the mind-blowing 30-piece Scandinavian big band conspiracy Fire! Orchestra. We expect the unexpected since she tries to come up with a different custom-tailored concept for every concert and her vocal abilities seem to be as limitless as her various influences.
This will be an essential night not to be missed, celebrating the human voice as the first, foremost and most noble of all musical instruments!
