OM at Bi Nuu / Monday, 16.11.2015

OM is a trio consisting of Al Cisneros, Emil Amos, and Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe. The sparingly named band reunites the oft-heralded Sleep rhythm section of Cisneros and Haikus. But with OM, rather than producing monolithic stoner/doom metal, they are focused on a softer, if no less hypnotic brand of drone rock, partly infused with monastic and Tibetan chanting.

Since reconnecting in 2004, OM has released its epic sonic meditations in the shape of split EPs with the likes of Current 93 and Six Organs of Admittance, and albums like 2005’s Variations on a Theme, 2006’s Conference of the Birds, and 2007’s Pilgrimage.

Where 2009’s GOD IS GOOD was the first step in a more ornate and sophisticated direction for OM, ADVAITIC SONGS (2012) achieves a level of composition that would’ve been impossible to foresee. There remains the singularity of purpose that is the core of all OM records, but no single reason can account for this comprehensive nature of their evolution.

Since God Is Good, Rob A.A. Lowe aka Lichens, the new third (almost fulltime) member, is adding electronic effects, percussion and guitar work to the vibrating spiritual jams.
