CTM presents another solid programm in their POLYMORPHISM series this March, with Forest Swords headlining fresh from their tour with Mogwai. Also playing is the live debut by Gut + Irmler and the one girl band Golden Disko Ship. Add to that a Falko Teichmann DJ set and youve got yourself one sweet lineup.
The project of producer/graphic designer Matthew Barnes, Forest Swords fashions hip-hop-inspired beats with atmospheric samples and evocative guitar work into dreamlike tracks that evoke the windy coastal terrain of his home in England’s Wirral Peninsula. As a teen, Barnes made four-track recordings, drawing inspiration not just from hip-hop and electronic music, but also from punk and pop groups such as Sugababes.

He began issuing music as Forest Swords in 2009, including the self-released EP Fjree Feather and the cassette singles Miarches and Glory Gongs. The following year saw the release of the Rattling Cage single and the Dagger Paths EP, which received widespread critical acclaim and appeared on several 2010 best-of lists. Though the time seemed ripe for a Forest Swords full-length, Barnes’ exacting standards and his tinnitus led him to work slowly on new music.
If there is one artist that encapsulates the new found air of uninhibited creative expression in modern electronic music then surely that artist is Kuedo.

Making his name as part of the acclaimed duo Vex’d, who’s brutal take on Dubstep helped define it in it’s infancy, Jamie Teasdale’s re-invention under his Kuedo moniker is nothing short of breath-taking. His early works under this pseudonym such as the acclaimed ‘Starfox’ on Planet Mu were colourful and warm, playful and exuberant and perfectly encapsulated the new found sense of freedom and release found as he removed himself from the restrictive and often nonsensical notions of ‘genre’.
