Caused by the arson attack on the Rauchhaus commune in the Bethanien building on 25 December, there have been serious property damages that make the livelihood of the more than 35 residents very difficult.
Since december, during various days of action and with the help of many supporters, most of the damages have been cleared up.
But there are still many things that need repairs: the illumination of the corridors, smashed doors and soot damages throughout the house. The donated money from this benefit event will be used for these repairs.
The name of the house commune refers to the anarchist Georg von Rauch, who was shot dead by a police officer on December 4th 1971 in Berlin. The house was squatted following a teach-in four days after his death.
Part of the teach-in was also a live music event with the band Ton Steine Scherben, which later, in 1974, would write the Rauchhaus-song. The Georg-von-Rauch-Haus is now existing since 40 years, as a self-organised house commune with focus on self-aid of young people.
The house project together with several other leftist projects appeared on a list of potential targets for arson attacks, which was published online by neo-nazis.
In recent time there have been a number of arson attacks against leftist projects in Germany like the Tommy-Weisbecker-Haus in the end of June 2011.
