Sam Prekop – comma Photography exhibition at Bis Aufs Messer / 18.07-18.09.2020

With his new modular synth album Comma coming out on Thrill Jockey this summer, Sea & Cake frontman offers an exclusive exhibition of his photography at Bis Aufs Messer record store in Friedrichshain. A key figure in the Chicago underground for over 25 years, Sam Prekop has left an indelible mark on the city’s music and arts scenes.

As a founding member of The Sea & Cake and an acclaimed solo composer, Prekop has imagined new horizons for pop music. His innate gifts of melodic turns of phrase that have made him a revered songwriter are transferred into new forms in his more recent exploration of the modular synthesizer, following in the tradition of pioneers like Brian Eno and Yellow Magic Orchestra who brought together the unrestrained ambition of the avant-garde with the immediacy and accessibility of pop music. Prekop’s visual art and photography turns that same sense of wide-eyed discovery to the world around him, finding beauty in the ordinary.

To coincide with the release of his new album Comma, Bis Aufs Messer Records will be hosting an exhibition of Prekop’s recent photography throughout the summer, with prints available to buy alongside the new album and titles from his eclectic discography.
