Splitter Orchester w/ Michael Vorfeld at former Rossmann near S+U Gesundbrunnen / Friday, 11.7.2025

On the occasion of its 15th anniversary, Berlin based Splitter Orchester presents a series of four site specific concerts at specifically selected locations in the city. Each venue is characterized by a unique history and unmatched acoustic properties that serve as starting points for the creation of one of a kind concert performances.

Berlin is ever changing, probably best symbolized by the coming and going of cultural spaces. Sometimes they even just literally pop up inside a former drugstore for a limited time before they vanish. One of those unlikely places is the location of the second iteration of Splitter Orchester’s site specific concert series 2025.

At a former Rossmann inside a still operating mall in Gesundbrunnen, the 18-piece composer-performer orchestra collaborates with Michael Vorfeld for the first time. Together they will transform the space multiple times over a total span of 5 hours, making use of a vast array of acoustic and visual triggers.

Michael Vorfeld is famous for his self-developed light bulb music – a very distinct and poetic take on creating audio-visual performances. The principles of this approach are superimposed onto Splitter Orchester, thus magnifying the effects. The walls of the room itself become porous, with slide projections illuminating the glass front of the store, while droning soundscapes and precise shifts in the music guide you through the journey. The audience is invited to stay as long as they like, finding different listening positions in the room and discovering the piece from their own perspective.

Splitter Orchester is — Burkhard Beins | percussion, Roy Carroll | electronics, Anat Cohavi | clarinet, Axel Dörner | trumpet, Sabine Ercklentz | trumpet and electronics, Kai Fagaschinski | clarinet, Emilio Gordoa | percussion, Robin Hayward | tuba, Steve Heather | percussion, Chris Heenan | contra bass clarinet, Mike Majkowski | double bass, Matthias Müller | trombone, Andrea Neumann | inside piano, Andrea Parkins | electronics and accordion, Michael Thieke | clarinet, Sabine Vogel | flutes, Biliana Voutchkova | violin, Marta Zapparoli | tape machines and antennas.
