S t a r g a z e, the Berlin based musicians’ collective bringing you and Berlin new music and new collaborations with the most ambitious indie-bands and pop/electronic solo artists around, is back at it’s ‘spiritual base’, the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.
It will has a mad mix of instrumental orchestral repertoire by György Ligeti, Johann Sebastian Bach, Bryce Dessner (The National), Mica Levi (Micachu and The Shapes), Béla Bartók, Grateful Dead, David Lang (Bang On A Can), all tied by certain thematic strands, especially those of ‘spiritual music’, folk music influences both North and East European.
On top of that it will has as well as the European premiere of ‘Michael Jordan’, a composition by Dirty Projector’s Dave Longstreth (co-commissioned by stargaze) and the German premiere of Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood’s compositions. There Will Be ‘Blood and Popcorn Superhet Receiver’. These have never been played in Germany although they exist for some years now. There will be form ‘all-stargaze orchestra’ in collaboration with ‘Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop’ featuring the many young and talented musicians of Berlin.
And yes, there is more: they invited the fabulous duo ‘A Hawk and a Hacksaw’ as well as Irish band ‘Villagers’, the Danish young punks of ‘Iceage’ and guitar-superhero ‘Bryce Dessner’ of The National to join on stage and work on new collaborations, all to be premiered at ‘s t a r g a z e orchestral’.
A wealth of approaches and a wealth of musics in 3 days. A feast of music. Let’s celebrate. Christmas may just come early in 2015.
