Hannu Karjalainen is an award winning visual artist, composer, sound artist, photographer and filmmaker based in Helsinki, Finland. Karjalainen’s recording career now spans nearly two decades, beginning under the pseudonym Hannu and later under his full name for releases on Berlin based Karaoke Kalk, New York based Kingdoms as well as Finland’s Signature Dark.
Karjalainen is also highly noted for his video installation work, photography and sound art that have been exhibited widely internationally, including UMMA University of Michigan Museum of Art, International Biennale of Photography Bogota, Scandinavia House New York, Fotogalleriet Oslo and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art Helsinki.
At MOMENTUM, Karjalainen presents a live rendition of his most recent work, the audiovisual project LUXE, released by Berlin based record label Karaoke Kalk in December 2021, tackling a fundamental doubt: What’s the deep reason behind making art when the world is burning?
