We are delighted to welcome back The Goon Sax back to Berlin for their first headline show, after playing a brilliant set at Down By The River Festival and supporting Frankie Cosmos.
The teen trio marry sublime indiepop with brilliantly human and brutally honest vignettes of adolescent angst delivered with personality, charm and heart-wrenching wonder.
The Goon Sax are James Harrison, Louis Forster and Riley Jones from Brisbane. Still in high school when they made their first album Up To Anything in 2016, their brand of awkwardly transcendent teenage guitar pop took them into end of year lists for BBC 6Music, Billboard and Rough Trade, and earned them rave reviews from the Guardian, Pitchfork, Spin, Uncut, Rolling Stone and elsewhere. According to Metacritic, Up To Anything was the 8th best-reviewed debut album anywhere in the world in 2016.
The Goon Sax toured UK and Europe twice on that record, played The Great Escape and shows with Whitney, US Girls, Twerps, TOPS and Teenage Fanclub, graduated school, and then turned their focus to album number two, due to be released later in the year. After recording Louis spent some time being bohemian in a freezing Berlin apartment, but they are now all back in Australia, and keeping busy playing shows with Angel Olsen, Perfume Genius and Protomartyr.
Supoorting The Goon Sax will be Berlin’s Adventure Team. Adventure Team is a Berlin-based band that delivers a refreshing new take on off-kilter, catchy lo-fi pop, accompanied by a steadily flowing stream of cozy guitar fuzz. Their songcraft as well as their at times shambolic live shows have gained the three-piece comparisons with Gen X arch slackers like Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, and Pavement.
On March 22nd 2018, the band released their debut full-length ‘Anyone Can Draw’ digitally and on cassette tape through Geertruida.
90s indie rock parallels aside, the group draws further crucial influence from all the major havens of the International Pop Underground, including the numerous boy-girl revolutionaries of 80s Glasgow and 90s Olympia WA, as well as the Kiwi jangle of New Zealand’s Flying Nun Records.
Together, the three teamsters Jonathan (voc, g), Emile (b) and Malte (dr) craft a signature sound that combines intuitive, tuneful guitar playing and languidly sincere vocals with a foundation of carefree four-string countermelodies and inventive, jazz-tinged rhythm work.
