With Frisk Frugt, the hosts of The Lake Radio invited a gem of the danish music scene for their monthly residency at Roter Salon.
Frisk Frugt – Danish for “fresh fruit” – is the work of Anders Lauge Meldgaard, a native of Aalborg, DK, currently dwelling in Berlin. Anders is a multi-instrumentalist who loads up his optimist’s dinghy full of saxophones, self-made mechanical instruments and other inspired sound gadgets, and sets sail on music’s diverse waves of opportunity. Just listen up: Frisk Frugt won’t sit still anywhere, and nor will his songs.

New album Den Europæriske Spejlbue draws in Danish folksong, European baroque, psych, sound-collage, avant-garde and pop music; all beautifully and ambitiously collaged together music concréte-style, via endless experimentation, overdubbing, editing and rearrangement.
Underscored by a playful and imaginary fascination with European classical music, it’s like a lush summer meadow in full bloom, at once teeming with tiny harmonic ecosystems and bursting with life-affirming possibilities.
[vimeo 101200433 w=620&h=300]Another highlight of this evening will be the screening of some films by indie director Vincent Moon. Vincent Moon aka Mathieu Saura, is a Parisian filmmaker that is making a pretty big name in the music, blog, and film scene.
After studying under photographers Michael Ackerman and Antoine D’Agata, the young music aficionado Saura became increasingly interested in moving images. The combination of music and film could easily have ended in MTV-land. But according to Moon, the usual music video has long been stuck in this limited marketing world.
[vimeo 53261407 w=620&h=300]Starting in 2006 with his Take Away Shows, Moon has offered a non-commercial alternative: small, short films that capture musicians in the alleys, hallways and elevators of the real world, without amplifiers or special effects. The Take Away Shows paved the way for larger film projects and Moon’s far-reaching résumé, which now includes concert films and documentaries, all equipped with the special shadow/light aesthetic that give his images a special abstract quality.
Moon’s greatest strength may be his ability to capture music without superfluous embellishments. He is a sonic adventurer, constantly seeking new musical treasure chests. He not only discovers, he participates, with his camera as an instrument.
