With the album Sent From My Telephone, Voice Actor’s genre-defying debut was quietly released by Stroom in 2022. The collaboration between Noa Kurzweil (Supertalented) and Levi Lanser (Ludittes) spawned a mammoth of a record, made up of 109 songs; it is over three and a half hours long.
In it, we find words are mirrors, reflecting soundscapes that recall memories both specific and universal. The reasoning for the album’s title is clear, as it walks a fine line between ‘music and audiobook’, as one Bandcamp commenter says – and is ultimately both. Their latest album Lust (1), in collaboration with Squu was released early this year, Pitchfork writing, “Though more compact than Voice Actor’s three-and-a-half-hour debut, the new album’s hazy blend of blown-out ambient and indecipherable murmurs taps into a similarly delirious dream state.”
Matti Gajek produces and performs electronic music under the stage name Gajek. Born in the GDR Gajek reflects on the emotional echo of ruptures and discontinuities: music about odd timelines, grief and ecstasy, weird youth cultures, hidden fashion codes, personal tragedies and strange haircuts. Remediating the forgotten archive of East German subcultures from a contemporary perspective Gajek´s music explores evolving textures of high-energy digital composition. In a unique production technique Gajek fractures and inverses modern genres emphasizing their out-of-jointness: creating oscillating atmospheres combined with haunting lyrical work.
Since 2014 Gajek has released five studio albums on Labels such as Stroom, Infinite Greyscale, Throttle Records and more. He composes music for films, theatre, exhibitions and performances.
