Jooklo Duo, Orphan Fairytale, Crème de Hassan and F Cavaliere Sound Intervention at West Germany / Sunday, 17.07.2016

Four first class acts on one lineup make this a Sunday to remember at West Germany.

“Blowing minds all over the world since 2004 with hundreds of charming performances and some cult records, Jooklo Duo (Virginia Genta on reeds, flutes, piano, percussion and David Vanzan on drums) keeps spreading their powerful and uniquely vibrant sound, deeply rooted in free jazz avant-garde but heavily influenced by traditional folk music, and at the same time open to extreme sound experiments. The duo has also been working with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company alongside John Paul Jones and Takehisa Kosugi, performing for “Nearly Ninety” in main theatres in Madrid and London, and has also been a long time favourite of emblematic figures such as Henry Rollins and magazine The Wire.”

ORPHAN FAIRYTALE (Blackest Rainbow, Ultra Eczema, Not Not Fun) “Floating like Alice in Wonderland on a origami flyer into the realm of the unconscious. The degree of dissociated dreaminess is arranged through her playful, melancholy sound structures and the diffuse mystical aesthetics of her synthetic soundscapes. How atmospheres of clownesque scenarios are able to morph into tableaux of horror and some afternoon cartoons are unsettling in their weirdness, the sound miniatures of Orphan Fairytale are creating schizoid flickering chambers. This is definitely surreal with no concrete way of perception pretended. Orphan’s melodies are picked from the collective memory and the potpourri of our childhood. Her sounds are deriving below the surface and proliferating in an rhizomatic-associative fog.” (Iko Kiko)

Signor Cavaliere will join forces with the Jooklos for a Sound Intervention. “Gancio Cielo is the first full length of Francesco Cavaliere, an artist we had the pleasure to introduce to the public some years ago with a legendary tape called “Neverending Somersault”. After years of live performing and an intense studio work, Francesco developed a unique style using his voice as main source of sounds and an incredible archive of home made sound FX. Gancio Cielo is a magical space standing on its own, where a fantastic night-time story combined with exotic electronic music, is narrated, unfolding from an imaginary universe in which alchemy and science fiction come together. Cavaliere has developed a veritable dictionary to catalogue the strange beings that inhabit this universe, undefined by reference points: hybrids of objects, minerals, animals, plants, planets, trails, cosmic objects and physical and perceptual phenomena.” (Hundebiss Records)

CRÈME DE HASSAN will present the debut performance of their new post-colonial spacecore project – a collaboration between Ghazi Barakat (Pharoah Chromium) and Paul LaBrecque (Head of Wantastiquet, Sunburned Hand of the Man). Crème di Hassan forges a new path through the underbrush, using guitars as machetes, and electronics/synths/samples as a flashlight to illuminate creatures of the past and future (you, us) lurking in the shadows. This world and our lives in this time-frame ain’t easy, so don’t expect a smooth ride. But at least TRY to dance!
