ZA! + Schnaak & The Rundu Choir @ NK Berlin | Friday, 29.11.2013

ZA! from Barcelona may be just 2 people on stage, yet the sound they produce is that of a futuristically transoceanic primitive orchestra.
D/B Presents: ZA! + Schnaak & The Rundu Choir @ NK Berlin | Friday, 28.12.2013
This multilayer supersonic-orchestra combines African beats, noise, math rock, vocal-loops, free jazz, analogue electronics, sounds from the shepherds of Tuva, Balinese polyrhythms, Mauritanian trip hop, Dadaism, distortion, dance and drones.

ZA! are two multi-instrumentalist polymaths from Catalonia. This crazy supersonic-orchestra combines African beats, noise, math rock, vocal-loops, free jazz, analogue electronics, sounds from the shepherds of Tuva, Balinese polyrhythms, Mauritanian trip hop, Dadaism, distortion, dance and drones – “Post Worldmusic” may be the name of this danceable hybrid.

SchnAAk and the Rundu Choir is the electro-sibling of the German racket duo SchnAAk (Mathias Jähnig / Johannes Döpping). This EP “No Security through Numbers” is their first output. The compositions are all about minimal movement, fragmented melodies and a different understanding of harmony.

The acoustic patterns are composed of analogue synthesizers, prepared guitars, heavy analogue drumming, lofi samples and cheap plugins. In 2012 Jähnig, who is also responsible for all things visual, had the opportunity to live one year among the !Kung of Northern Namibia & Southern Angola – a very special experience. “No Security through Numbers” addresses the challenge of understanding a completely different outlook on life.
