“Good Evening, ladies and gentlemen, we’ve got a great show for you to… – Hey, could you dim that freakin’ light in my face?” The musical theatre evening “Whole Body Like Gone” with a premiere by Evan Gardner and directed by Ulrike Schwab explores the longing and the promises in pop culture.
Inspired by the comic strip “Little Orphan Annie”, hits of 1924 and the performance artist Andy Kaufman, it becomes a musical chamber play between distinction and appropriation in which the musicians of the Zafraan Ensemble as well as award-winning Danish soprano Dénise Beck become actors of their own. To reinvent one’s own identity is more than an entertaining parlour game.
Zafran stands for music that reflects all facets of life, society and reality today. In combination with
other art forms, Zafraan observes, explores and processes that which surrounds us: people, events,
nature and technology, the normalities and absurdities of today. The democratically-organised
ensemble constitutes ten fixed members from Spain, France, New Zealand , Australia and Germany.
