This year’s Month of Contemporary Music will kick off on 1 Sep at Berlin’s Kulturraum Zwingli-Kirche with the portrait concert »Metal & Breath« in honor of Christian Wolff.
Together with percussionist Robyn Schulkowsky, the low brass ensemble Zinc & Copper will interpret a selection of Wolff’s compositions from 1968 through 2007 along with a premiere of a new work that the composer wrote especially for these four musicians. The three members of Zinc & Copper – Elena Kakaliagou (horn), Hilary Jeffery (trombone and trumpet), and Robin Hayward (microtonal tuba and tuning vine) – will weave these five works together with their collective piece »Well Tuned Brass«. With its focus on giving the players creative freedom, this portrait concert is the perfect prelude to the Month of Contemporary Music, an outgrowth of Berlin’s independent scene.
The evening offers the opportunity to talk over drinks with musicians, composers, artists, organisers, audiences, politicians, and other players in Berlin’s cultural life.
